A Munich delicacy is the this Kartoffel a shredded potato Pattie which is fried in hot oil until golden brown and then served with apple sauce. It is a great snack and goes well with a nice cold beer.
This photograph was taken at the Kartoffelhaus stand at Munich’s Oktoberfest where thousands were served every day and for only one Euro its not hard to see why. No visit to Munich would be complete without trying one or two of these tasty treats. Read the rest of this entry »

The Munich Toy Museum is a novel attraction which will entertain young and old for a few minutes. The museum building itself is interesting it is? built in a tower at the end of the city gate at Marienplatz. This building has 5 rooms all about the size of a bed room but they are connected via a? narrow windy stone staircase which is very difficult to navigate. Only one person can fit up or down at any one time and you wont want to be too big. The toy museum itself is quiet interesting there are a large collection of old toys heaps of crusty old bears, dolls, early puzzles and some? mechanical toys, model cars and lots of childhood memories. Oktoberfest in Munich Germany is all about beer, swine and fun but one tent dares to be different it serves smoked herrings. These tasty morsels are cooked in large charcoal grills outside the pavilion as they would smell it out. You can smell these fish a mile off- well not quite but they do have a distinctive strong odour. Hundreds are served every hour on a platter with salad, pate, bread and other German specialties. The Hofbrauhaus Beir or HB as it is fondly known is probably the best known of Munich’s beers. Hofbrauhas’ beer brewing tradition dates back to 1589 when some chamberlains and council members decided to build their own brewery. During the Football World Cup in 2006 Munich’s local businesses and the city decorated huge fibreglass lions. All of them were decorated in different poses and painted in corporate colours or in interesting ways.
