The Bergiselschanze

A spectacular landmark in the Austrian city of Innsbruck is the Bergiselschanze ski jump on the Bergisel Hill. The huge concrete and glass structure was built in 2001 and the current form was designed by Iraqi architect, Zaha Hadid at a cost of €15 million. The actual Bergiselschanze dates back to the 1930’s. There is a cafe at the top which offers amazing views of Innsbruck and the surrounding villages on a clear day. The jump hosts the annual prestigious Four Hills Tournament’ third leg and the mountain has played host to two Winter Olympic Games, the 1964 games and the 1976 games. The Bergisel can be easily reached by the Stubaitalbahn from Innsbruck.

Minimundus is a fantastic miniature park in Carinthia, Austria and has over 150 miniature architectural models from all around the world at an amazing 1:25 scale. The park has been open for fifty years and has seen over 15 million people through its gates, raising money for the children’s organisation Rettet das Kind or Save a child who own the park. The park has become so popular another park located at Meckenbeuren on the lovely Lake Constance in Germany has opened giving visitors two choices. Some of the amazing buildings include the Sydney Opera House, Eiffel tower, the White House, Taj Mahal and the Suleiman Mosque. They even have model trains and a scale space shuttle. Innsbruck’s Goldenes Dachl

The Goldenes Dachl is one of Innsbruck in Austria’s most popular attractions. There isn’t too much to do here just take a photo of the beautiful gold leaf roof and then go find some Schnapps or maybe some of Austria’s beautiful crystal or chocolate. The building was built for the Tirolean sovereigns in the early 15th century. A royal balcony was built at the front of the residence so the royals could sit in luxury and watch tournaments in the square. To make the balcony even more special the roof of it was covered with more than 2600 gold plated copper tiles. Today the beautiful golden roof still glows in the bright Austrian sun and is well worth a visit, even at night the roof glows in the lit square and is quite spectacular.

Giant Schnitzels

You can travel the world looking for the best schnitzel but you would be wasting your time unless you go straight to Austria and find Schnitelwelt. They have the juiciest schnitzels you have ever tasted. Schnitzelwelt appeared to be a chain and can be found in about 6 locations throughout Austria, they are a bit like KFC or McDonalds only they sell schnitzels. There are quiet a few varieties to choose including Beef, Pork, Chicken Vegetable and Surschnitzel, which is a sour pork fillet and Fisch (which I believe is fish). The meal is served quiet simply on a plate with some chips and some dips. The restaurants are also licensed so you can get a nice cold Austrian beer and they have great donuts for desert- that’s if you can fit one in. My suggestion is go the meal deal, schnitzel, beer and donut, or if you are real hungry try a trio of schnitzel. The tasty treat pictured above was from the Villach store.
