Ever wanted to come face to face with one of the worlds most feared creatures in its natural habitat, well Australia’s Kakaudu is the place. Imagine taking a majestic cruise up the South Alligator River and watch salt water crocodiles glide by. The Yellow Water Bilabong is the place at the end of Jim Jim Creek not far from Jabaru. Experienced guides point out some of the spectacular scenery and magnificent wildlife from canopied cruise boats. Kakadu is home to not only crocodiles but nearly a third of Australia’s bird species including magpie geese, eagles and the magnificent Jaburu stork. At the begining of the cruise to satisfy safety regulations the crew explain the important rules for an emergency including where the life jackets are kept, only a brave person would want to use them in this croc infested area.

To market, To market
The Queen Victoria Market has been an institution in Melbourne Australia for over 125 years. With over a 1000 stalls selling just about everything from fresh meat, fish and vegetables to clothing, housewares and the unusual the market attracts tens of thousands of shoppers every day. Built on Melbourne’s first cemetery the market covers seven hectares of the city with most of it undercover. The market opens Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with a huge Sunday market which sells mainly fashion and variety items being the biggest day. Over the warmer months a popular night market is held on Wednesdays where there is gourmet food, wine tasting and plenty of entertainment. A trip to Melbourne is not complete without visiting the QV.
Ettamongah Pub
Ken Maynard is one of Australia’s best loved cartoonists his favorite characters all feature around the Ettamongah Pub. The pub is a wacky old place and the people and critters in it are just as strange. Two of these hotels have been created in real life on just out of Albury / Wodonga in Southern New South Wales and this one on Queensland’s sunshine coast at Caloundra. Don’t forget to to have a ice cold beer at Bluey’s bar and the meals at the grill are huge and very Aussie.The pub is surrounded by Aussie World another kitsch and over the top Aussie adventure. There’s heaps of rides for the kids including a huge Ferris wheel and plenty of sideshow action.
World Heritage – Daintree Rain Forest
The Daintree about an hours drive north of Cairns in Australia’s tropical Queensland is home to the giant Barramundi. This fish sits upon the Barbeque garden at the Timber Museum and Gallery. The Barramundi isn’t the only big thing found in the rivers of these parts of Australia, the freshwater crocodile is also in plentiful supply. The region has several river cruises to choose from and you are all but guaranteed to see one of these enormous and deadly reptiles on your journey.
Sydney Cricket Ground
The Sydney Cricket Ground is one of Australia’s most historic sporting arenas, dating back to the mid 1860’s. The ground was the scene of champion Australian Cricketer Don Bradman’s incredible 452 runs not out in 1930 and since then has played host to some of Cricket’s biggest games as well as hosting the 1938 Empire Games, AFL Football, Rugby and major concert events. The SCG offers a great tour with plenty of history and a behind the scenes look at this magnificent stadium.
This Summer the SCG plays host to India vs Australia in the International Test Cricket Series.
A roo and and a game of golf
Anglesea on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road has a very unique Golf Course where you play your 18 holes with herds of Kangaroos watching on. Established in the 1950’s the golf club is one of the premier clubs in the region. The club is visited by hundred’s of visitors every day who stop by for a close up look at these beautiful animals. The kangaroos don’t seem to care too much about the flying balls and can be often seen enjoying the sun right in the middle of the green while golfers are trying to play shots.
Geelong – Kings of Aussie Rules Football
Geelong, Australia moments ago became home to the 2007 Australian Rules Football Premiers. Geelong is a beautiful bayside city about an hours drive south west of Melbourne. Only minutes from some of the world’s best surf beaches this town has a year long calendar of events, great attractions and shopping. But today the focus on Geelong is football and the Geelong Cats have just been crowned the best in the land!
Ute capital of the world
Although the Ute or Utility was invented by Ford in Geelong Australia in the 1930’s, Deniliquin in New South Wales holds the title of the Ute capital of the World. Deniliquin is on the edge of some of the driest and flattest land on earth a farming and grazing region and home to the annual ute muster. In 1999 Deniliquin wrote itself into the history books with the largest parade of registered utes with 2939 vehicles taking place, and since then the number has grown to 6211. People bring their utes from all over Australia to attend and some even transport them from overseas for this huge event. This years event is on this weekend and it promises to be bigger than ever. Whimsical Waterfront Bollards
Geelong in Victoria Australia is home to over 100 wooden bollards painted up as historical figures from the area stretching the length of its magnificent waterfront. This one in our photograph is a favorite for the town, he celebrates the rich tradition of one of Australian Rules Football most mighty of clubs- the Geelong Cats, who incidentally finished on top of the ladder this season. There bollards were painted by renowned local artist Jan Mitchell and are a favorite for young and old. 300 Metre long crocodile found in Australian Outback
About two and a half hours drive east of Darwin in the heart of the World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park you will find one of the worlds most unique hotels. A huge crocodile shaped hotel. This luxury hotel is at Jaburu in the heart of Kakadu. The hotel, created by a Darwin architect working with the local Aboriginal people, measuring over 250 metres long the head holds the foyer, reception, gift shop and restaurants. While the body is home to the 110 luxury rooms. The legs are the stairs to the rooms while the tummy of the beast is home to the pool and gardens. The whole reptile is covered in a green scale like metal cladding. Tourist coaches pull up in the jaws of the crocodile to offload and pick up the hotel guests.
