The Vegas strip sure has had some great stage shows over the years, Elvis the King, Frank Sinatra, Ziegfied and Roy and and and more recently Elton John and Cilone Dion, but the most specatacular and talked about show at the moment would have to be the breathtaking Cirque du Soleil “Love” set to the Beatles greatest hits at the Mirage Casino. Beatles Love is the latest Album released by what many regard as the best band of all time. It originally started as an idea by George Harrison and his friend Guy Lalibert, one of Cirque’s founders. After years of planning original Beatles producer Sir George Martin and his son Giles went to work on remastering and remixing many of the Beatles greatest hits, while the circus was developed resulting in and amazing specticle. A special theatre was even built to house the elaborate set, called the Love theatre it houses 2013 seats and an amazing 6341 speakers and one of the most technically advanced stages which sits centally in th theatre. The show has shown to packed houses ever since and looks like being on the Vegas strip for many years to come.

One of the most visited tourist spots in San Francisco is Alcatraz Island or the rock, best known for its imfamous federal penitentary. The island over the years has been a fortress, a prison, a light house outpost, a site of native American occupation and now is part of the Golden Gate National park. Interstingly the island gets its name from teh Alcatraces, which was the Spanish name given to the brown pelicans which were common in the area when the exloreres first found the area. The only way to get to Alcatraz is by a ferry operated by Alcatraz Cruises, LLC. Tripandom Disney Week – New Monorails
Well we thought being Christmas Week we should feature stories on the happiest place (or places) on earth- Yes Disneyland’s around the world. Our first story celebrates new monorails at the Anaheim Disneyland. We were reading on one of our favorite blogs that the monorails at Disneyland are getting a huge overhaul. As the photograph shows they are going to look pretty flash, word is they will have fancy blue glass and red strips which change colours in sunlight- a bit like one of those hypercolour t-shirts I suppose. The cabins take on a real futuristic retro look which should look great zooming around the Disneyland park. It looks like the first passengers will be able to ride on these sleek machines around February, so there’s not much time to wait. There should be plenty of new fun at the park during 2008 with a huge multi million dollar upgrade underway at both Disneyland and the Californian Adventure which will both see new attractions and fun for all over the next few years.

The John Lennon Memorial in Central Park
John Lennon was tragically taken 27 years ago this month and once again thousands of people visited the Strawberry Fields Memorial in New York’s Central Park. The memorial is close to the Dakota Building where John lived and was murdered on December 8, 1980. The memorial is set in a 2.5 acre landscaped area of the park and is dedicated to Lennon. The memorial opened on what would have been Lennon’s 45th Birthday on October 9th 1985 and was underwritten by Yoko Ono, Lennon’s widow. The gardens are not only a place to celebrate the life of John Lennon, it is a place to reflect peace, during the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11 2001 the gardens were used by hundreds for prayer and reflection of the happening events.
A village built on the scurvy dead’s burial ground
San Diego is one of North America’s most beautiful harbour cities and one of the most popular places to relax, have a bit to eat and do some great shopping is at the Sea Port Village right on the Pacific Ocean. Opening in 1980 on reclaimed land over the Point of the Dead or Punta de los Muertos in Spanish the site was where the Spanish buried their dead from Scurvy in the 1780’s. It later became a goods yard for the railroad and today has been transformed into a huge open air entertainment complex. The centre has over 50 shops, a dozen or so eateries and a number of fine dining experiences plus its only a short stroll to the Convention Centre, Marriott Hotel & Marina, Manchester Grand Hyatt and Midway Museum. The area is beautifully landscaped with lakes, cobblestone pathways and a boardwalk along the San Diego Bay. There is a full calendar of events and a beautifully restored 1895 carousel for the kids. A great way to fill in the afternoon for anyone visiting lovely San Diego.
